The TYES system is a terminal yard management system used by Norfolk Southern, to manage their rail yards. The system is designed to track and manage the movement of trains and cargo within the yard. However, the current design of the system has some gaps, particularly in terms of providing terminal staff with the information they need to effectively manage the flow of trains and cargo.
To address these issues, PA Consulting, in collaboration with Princeton Consulting and Norfolk Southern, embarked on a project to redesign the TYES system. The objective of the project was to improve the user interface (UI) of the system, making it more modern, sleek, and user-friendly.
Princeton Consulting had already created designs for the system, and PA Consulting's role was to help re-skin the UI to give it a more "next-gen" look and feel. This involved updating the visual design of the system to make it more appealing and easier to use, as well as improving the functionality of the system to provide terminal staff with the information they need to effectively manage the flow of trains and cargo.
